If you or someone in your family uses a wheelchair, a walker, or just needs one-level living, finding an accessible mobile home rental in Ocala can take a long time. Most mobile homes have narrow doors, cramped bathrooms, and switches and cabinets nobody in a chair can reach. Two homes coming to Ocala Landing Mobile Home Park, at 1001 NE 77th St, Ocala, FL 34479, are built differently.

One is a 2022 Deer Valley with 2 bedrooms and 1 bath. The other is a 2023 Franklin Next Gen with 3 bedrooms and 2 baths. Both are wheelchair accessible manufactured homes designed with accessibility features, both are being renovated, and each will have a ramp added prior to move-in for ramp access at the front door. Here’s what that means in plain terms.
Wheelchair-Accessible Features in Both Homes
Wide doorways: 36-inch doors throughout
Every door in the home is 36 inches wide, so wheelchairs and walkers fit through easily, without scraping your knuckles or the door frame. Getting from room to room is easier for everyone, including on days you’re carrying laundry or groceries.
Lower light switches
Light switches are mounted lower than usual, so you can reach them from a seated position.
Large, spacious bathrooms
Each accessible bathroom is large, with plenty of room to turn around and move in a wheelchair or with a walker.
A tub with a shower and a bench
Each bathroom has a tub with a shower and a bench, so you can sit while you wash. You’ll also find bathroom grab bars by the tub and toilet and a wall-mounted bathroom sink.

Upper kitchen cabinets mounted lower
The upper cabinets are hung lower than usual, so you can reach plates, cups, and pantry items from a seated position. No step stool, and no waiting for someone to get things down for you.
A roll-under kitchen sink
For an accessible kitchen, there’s no cabinet under the kitchen sink. That leaves open space for a wheelchair to roll right up, so you can wash dishes, fill a pot, or rinse vegetables without twisting sideways.

Laundry inside the home
In the 2 bedroom, the laundry is built into the bathroom. In the 3 bedroom, it’s in one of the bathrooms. Either way, there are no trips outside to do laundry.
An exterior storage closet
Each home has an exterior storage closet for tools, seasonal items, or anything you’d rather not keep inside.
Central AC
Both homes have central air conditioning, so the whole house stays cool through a Florida summer, not just one room.
Single-level living
Everything is on one floor, so the inside of the home is stair-free. That helps if you use a wheelchair, if you’re recovering from surgery, if stairs are hard on your knees, or if you’re planning ahead for aging in place.
A ramp at the front door
A ramp will be added prior to move-in, so you can get into the house without dealing with steps.
Built sturdier than a typical mobile home
Both homes are built with 2×6 exterior walls. Many older mobile homes were framed with 2x4s. Thicker walls make a stronger frame, leave more room for insulation, and give the home a more solid feel. That helps with summer heat, keeps the house quieter, and makes it a better place to settle in for the long haul.
The 2 Bedroom, 1 Bath: 2022 Deer Valley
This 2022 Deer Valley has 2 bedrooms and 1 large bathroom with the laundry built in. It’s designed with accessibility features, including 36-inch doors throughout, lower light switches, a tub with a shower and a bench, lower upper cabinets, a roll-under kitchen sink, an exterior storage closet, central AC, and 2×6 exterior walls. A ramp will be added prior to move-in.
The 3 Bedroom, 2 Bath: 2023 Franklin Next Gen
This 2023 Franklin Next Gen has 3 bedrooms and 2 large bathrooms, with the laundry in one of them. It has the same accessibility features, including 36-inch doors throughout, lower light switches, a tub with a shower and a bench, lower upper cabinets, a roll-under kitchen sink, an exterior storage closet, central AC, and 2×6 exterior walls. A ramp will be added prior to move-in. The third bedroom and second bathroom are handy if a caregiver, family member, or roommate is living with you.
Who these homes are for
These homes could be a great fit for a wheelchair user, someone who uses a walker or cane and needs a mobility-friendly home, an older adult looking for an aging in place mobile home in Florida, or a family caring for someone who needs step-free living.
